This weekend I'll be attending a nationwide celebration of culture, entertainment and the Hispanic community.

On August 31st and September 1st, People En Español will host their annual Festival. Festival People En Español 2013 is a 2-day event at San Antonio, Texas. The festival will have free daytime events with celebrities like Maite Perroni, Angelica Maria, Jencarlos Canela, and many more at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. A whole weekend (two days and two nights) which will focus on the issues that we are passionate about: beauty, fashion, food and music. The day will transition into exciting night concerts with Latin celebrities like Gloria Estefan and Demi Lovato which will take place at the Alamodome.

Soledad O'Brien to moderate "Latino's in higher education:Staying in school & achieving success" panel discussion featuring Congressman Joaquin Castro, Pamela Silva-Conde, Bentia Veliz on Saturday, August 31st at 2pm. The discussion will feature segments that address a variety of critical issues with feedback from public figures who have overcome challenges to achieve success. The panel also follows individual community events aimed at supporting education for Hispanic students in San Antonio.


The day time activities at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center are free. Recently Marshall's sent me shopping for their #FabFound project! I love Marshall's and shop there often. I'm always finding fabulous fashions, home decor and so much more at great prices.

Emma Lee is starting kindergarten this week and I picked up an adorable outfit. The dress was $13, scarf $4 and the Converse shoes were $20. I love the style of the dress, it's perfect for the warm days here in Texas. All three items can be still be worn when the weather cools down in the fall, I just need to add some tights and a cardigan and she's all set!



While I was shopping for back to school outfits for Emma Lee, I could not help but notice all of the awesome home decor they had. I loved it all and the prices were such a deal! I came home with much more than I had expected and spent a lot less than I had anticipated.

A few spaces in my apartment were definitely lacking color and style and in need of a Marshall's make-over.


I recently purchased this bookshelf and wanted to use it to add some color in the living room so I purchased all of these items at Marshall's, all of the items were between $5.99-7.99! I now love the way my bookshelf looks.


Next was my dinning room, it was so plain and boring. I picked up a few picture frames to hang on the wall (Now I have to add some photos!), an awesome decorative fruit bowl and the table runner I had purchased a few months back at Marshall's.

I have teamed up with Habitat Home Center to bring you this re-purposed cabinet door do-it-yourself project for their #DontTrashIt campaign.



Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio Home Center is wholly owned and operated by Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio and serves as a home improvement thrift store. The Habitat Home Center’s take in material donations and resell these donations to the public at a highly discounted price. 100% of the proceeds made by the  Home Center benefit Habitat for Humanity of San Antonio. Since they take in material donations, Habitat Home Center is really big on reducing the amount of waste sent to the landfills and tries to give people the alternative of donating their items instead of discarding them. In turn, they try to promote the purchasing of donated items. 

• Cabniet door
• Fabric or scrapbook paper
• Decorative hooks and knobs
• Spay paint
• Mod podge 
• Glue
• Sand paper (optional)

Instructions: 

 Once you have your supplies, it's all about sanding, painting and piecing everything together.

1. First I went over the cabinet door with some sand paper to remove dirt and oil and to even out any knicks.
2. Spray paint the door.
3. Cut the fabric to fit the center of the door.
4. Coat a thin layer of Mod Podge where you want your fabric piece to go and then place your fabric on top of the wet mod podge and smooth out any bubbles or wrinkles. 
5. Once your fabric is smoothed out, coat a layer of mod podge over the fabric.
6. When mod podge is dry, use glue to attach decorative knobs and hooks.

* Tip: Cut fabric slightly bigger than the center of your door and once mod podge is dry, use an Xacto or any sharp blade to remove excess fabric.

These meal kits make meal prep so easy and you the end result is a delicious meal everyone in the family will enjoy. I love using these recipe kits to help with dinner meals for my family. As you can see from all the recipe's on my blog, I don't cook much and I like to keep things quick and easy.


The other day I headed to my local Walmart to pick up a few groceries for the week and found the Kraft Recipe Makers in the pasta aisle. There were a few recipe kits and they all looked and sounded so good. I went with the Verde Chicken Enchiladas meal kit. It's been a while since we've had enchiladas and this would be my first time making them for that family at home. You can find the other items you'll need for your meal on the back of the box along with step by step instructions on prep and cooking. I paid a little over $10 for all of my ingredients and was able to serve the entire family.


Here is all I needed to make the enchiladas. The only real cooking I had to do is cook the chicken I had purchased. After that all I had to do was put it all together and into the pan. Prepping the enchiladas took me about 5 minutes from start to finish.


Enchiladas are ready to bake in the oven.


The enchiladas baked for 15 minutes in the oven and now they are ready to serve. The enchiladas were a big hit for dinner. They tasted delicious and the entire family ate them up, no leftovers with this meal. I can't wait to try out more of the Kraft Recipe Makers kits for dinner. They were quick and easy to make and a very affordable meal.
