How Much Do Know About Preserving Your Healthy Sight For Life?

{Thanks to Latina Mom Bloggers & Transitions Optical for sponsoring today's post}

Can you imagine what it could be like to suddenly lose your eyesight due to an illness or poor health condition? It's a very scary thought and something most adults don't think about. Not many of us ask ourselves "What if I lose my eyesight to a preventative illness? How would that impact my family?”I had a very frightening scare when I was 23 and pregnant with my first child. I have type 2 diabetes and I began to have vision problems during my pregnancy related to the disease. I've worn glasses since middle school because I'm near sighted but my vision went from needing glasses to see road signs from a distance to very blurry vision and not being able to drive at all... overnight. Apparently my pregnancy had accelerated the disease and I needed to have laser eye surgery to correct my vision.

Transitions Optical wants to help build awareness for preventative eye checks that can help prevent such a horrible situation from occurring. HealthySightforLife.com is a great website you can visit to learn more about eye health, visitors can experiment with a vision self-check to obtain simple results of an eye exam.

I went on the site and entered my information and based on my ethnicity and age, it determined what conditions I was at risk for and provided eye health resources.

Transitions and the American Diabetes Association recently presented an in-market event in San Antonio, Texas to provide Latino and multicultural families with vital eye health information. The event was attended by more than 5,590 visitors which was a 6% increase over 2012 visitor traffic! There were 329 FREE vision screenings and all participants were encouraged to visit an Eye Care professional for follow-up care. The information provided at these community fairs regarding the link between Diabetes and healthy eyesight is imperative for the Latino community.

The 2013 Official Sponsor of Sightseeing (OSS) program is a consumer education effort created by Transitions Optical to demonstrate that vision is the gateway to the world around us, allowing us to “see the sights” in our everyday life and enjoy every moment to the fullest. Transitions adaptive lenses enhance vision to help deliver vibrant must-see experiences and bring consumers closer to the sights, sounds and tastes of the things they enjoy most – food, music, sports and travel.
