Discovery Familia has been specifically created to reflect and speak to the needs of Hispanic women and what they value most in their lives. The network is meant to serve as a resource for Hispanic mothers to encourage them to take time for themselves. Their newest show DESAFÍO FASHIONISTA is all about fashion and provides fashion tips from experts.
DESAFÍO FASHIONISTA is a series designed as a fashion competition during which four women take on challenges to reveal who is the ultimate fashionista. The series will air Fridays at 9PM EST/9PM PST starting August 15, on Discovery Familia.
Since becoming a stay-at-home mom then a work-at-home mom, I easily slipped into bad fashion habits. I became very use to wearing comfortable yet unflattering clothing. Which is fine when you're at home but I started to realize that my wardrobe consisted of nothing but "Comfy" clothes that were boring and unflattering. Once I started to get out more for events and my daughters school activates, I knew I had to update my wardrobe quickly. So I purchased a few simple key items that would help me look a little more fashionable when I needed to. Here are a few of my tips for going from blah to ya!
1. Buy a pair of great jeans or capris. These can be dressed down or up.
2. Find fun and bold tops. They will easily go with jeans and many other bottoms you already have.
3. Purchase a blazer, one that will go with most of the colors in your closet. Pair it with a different color top for different looks.
4. Get your self some pretty accessories like a "Statement" necklace.
Say yes to prints! They are perfect if you are looking for a striking look but remember these simple rules
1. Never mix with prints with another print, leave those combinations for fashion shows.
2. Prints should be combined with basic tones
In each episode of DESAFÍO FASHIONISTA, four contestants will take part and will need to win different tests. During each one of the challenges they will have to put together the perfect look to wear on three distinct, special occasions: a beach wedding, a blind date and a job interview, among others. The judges’ panel—made up of Mexican model, actress and blogger Adriana Abascal, who is also the series’ host; Mexican presenter Olivia Peralta; Colombian fashion editor Juan Carlos Giraldo; and a special guest panelist on each new episode—will evaluate the personal taste, elegance, creativity and, above all else, the keen sense of style of each of the contestants.
Discovery Familia will be promoting the series through a contest in which participants could win weekly prizes of $250 and a grand prize of $1,000 + the luxury of having a personal stylist to create the wardrobe of the winner's dream. Enter here!
