Carne Asada recipe

{This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers & the United Soybean Board. However, opinions expressed are my own.}

During Hispanic Heritage month, I try to find ways to teach and educate my children and I about our culture. My family and I celebrate and live our Hispanic culture everyday of the year because we are proud of who we are but I believe that Hispanic Heritage month is a great time to teach and learn about what makes us who we are and who we will become. Like many Hispanics, we love celebrating with food! A family favorite dish in our family is Carne Asada, which is marinated meat soaked with flavor then grilled, it's very tender and juicy. Carne asada can be served along side some of your favorite side-dishes or served up as tacos.

Some of my favorite family recipes originated in my grandmother and great grandmother’s kitchens. The stories behind the recipes are cherished moments that I will pass on to my children. As a Soy Connection Ambassador, I encourage you to keep memories and cooking traditions alive by recording your stories and sharing them with us.

Some traditions are worth keeping, like using soybean oil for all of my cooking needs.

Carne Asada

Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup - Soy Bean oil
  • 1/4 cup - Soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup - Orange juice
  • 1/3 cup - Lime Juice
  • 1/2 cup - Lemon Juice
  • 1 bunch Cilantro, chopped
  • 2 cloves - Garlic, minced
  • 1 Tablespoon - Chili powder
  • 1 Tablespoon - Pepper
  • 1/2 Tablespoon - Cumin
  • 1/2 Tablespoon - Paprika
  • 1 pound of Steak, Skirt steak or sirloin medallions
Directions
  1. Except for the steak, mix together all of the ingredients to make your marinade. Place steak and marinade in a bowl or ziplock bag and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight. The longer the better.
  2. If you have a skirt steak; cook over medium heat on a grill until medium well. Over cooking can cause the meat to be very dry. If you have steak medallions or don't have a grill, you can cook your Carne Asada in a frying pan. In a frying pan add 1 tablespoon of oil and cook your meat over medium heat until cooked. For better results, you can add a mix of frozen peppers and onions to your pan to cook with your steak.
  3. Serve along side your favorite side-dishes or in a flour tortilla with your favorite toppings.

Though you may not realize it, there’s a good chance soybean oil is part of your cooking routine. In fact, soybean oil accounts for approximately 58% of vegetable oil used in homes and commercial cooking! Just check the ingredients label to be sure.

Soybean oil is one of the most versatile ingredients in my pantry. The oil has a neutral flavor that helps me create some of my favorite traditional meals without compromising taste.
