- Cover unused electrical sockets with plastic covers.
- Repair or discard any damaged appliances or electric cords.
- Make sure small household items, such as coins, buttons, jewelry, small balls and pins, are stored away from a child's reach to avoid accidental choking.
- Install smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors and test them monthly.
- Use baby gates at the top and bottom of stairs and secure any balconies.
- Secure windows and lock doors to prevent falls or children wondering away from home.
- Keep hairdryers and radios away from water.
- Cook on the rear of the stove and turn pot handles toward the back of the stove top.
- Brace furniture such as bookcases, TV stands, and cupboards or attach them to the wall.
- Learn CPR.
- Assemble a first aid kit with emergency instructions.
- Keep important numbers near your phone such as poison control and your pediatrician.
