#EndPeriodPoverty with Always and HEB

{This is a sponsored post on behalf of Always & HEB. Opinions are of my own}

When you hear the term ‘Period Poverty” you most likely think of something young girls in third world countries have to deal with. However, period poverty is happening today in our very own communities around America. Nearly 1 in 5 American girls have either missed school or left early because they didn’t have access to the products they needed to manage their periods. This time in a girl’s life can be very distressing, school academics can be challenging on a daily basis, and not having access to period products can seriously complicate the situation even further. I remember that time in my life, everything was so awkward and confusing, so I can’t imagine how difficult it must all be to not have access to feminine products during this new stage in a young girl’s life.

Lack of access to period protection starts a vicious cycle; missing classes, getting behind in schoolwork and missing out on activities, like sports and clubs. These activities help build her confidence and skills, and missing out can limit a girl’s potential and opportunities far beyond puberty. These are obstacles that many girls can face when not having the proper products during her time of the month. The choices she makes today because she doesn't have period products can have a huge impact on the rest of her life.

Always and HEB are on a mission to raise awareness of American girls’ lack of access to period products, and the impact it has on them missing school and their confidence. It’s important that we remove the stigma around the issue by creating a conversation on social media that encourages our society to better understand the problem, and to support girls who need products this school year.

Always is partnering with HEB to help make others aware of period poverty with their #EndPeriodPoverty campaign. They are aiming to donate an additional 15 million period products to Feeding America, a long-standing partner, through the organization’s school pantry program, which provides food, toiletries and personal care products to kids who are most in need. With every purchase of Always from now until September 8th at your local HEB, an additional donation of product will be made to a Feeding America location so girls will have access to the products they need. You can help! Visit your local HEB store and purchase Always products this back-to-school season, don’t forget to take advantage of HEB’s curbside grocery pickup. Also, follow the hashtag #EndPeriodPoverty on social media and contribute to the conversation to raise awareness!
